DANJIE WEI

A Journey
of
Light & Nature

Born in Nanjing and raised in Beijing, Danjie Wei possesses an artistic pedigree rooted in a lifelong devotion to the humanities. The daughter of the renowned artist Chuyu Wei. Danjie’s formal training began in childhood under her father’s tutelage. This early immersion was supplemented by a rigorous education in music—encompassing vocal, piano, and accordion training—and a deep love for literature, all of which continue to inform the lyrical quality of her visual work today.

Having been brought up in a house full of books and art and surrounded by parents' friends, many of whom are involved in art and other intellectual endeavors, I was able to experience a part of the art world in China from a very early age.

Academic Excellence
&
European Influence

After earning a Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Design from the Beijing Institute of Technology, Danjie embarked on an extensive journey through Europe. This period served as a turning point in her career; by immersing herself in the continent’s major museums and copying the works of the Old Masters, she refined her technical prowess and deepened her artistic vision. A pivotal two-month landscape painting intensive in Florence, Italy, further solidified her transition into the world of fine arts.

Master of Fine Arts
&
The American West

Seeking to further bridge her classical foundations with contemporary practice, Danjie moved to the United States to attend the Academy of Art University in San Francisco, where she earned her Master of Fine Arts in 2016. While her studies provided technical mastery, it was her travels through the American National Parks that provided her ultimate muse. The vast, magnificent scenery of the West offered endless inspiration, prompting a permanent move from the city to the Sierra Mountains.

In 2019, Danjie Wei’s oil painting "Morning Mist" was exhibited in New York for the 91st Grand National Exhibition. Many of her oil painting and watercolor works have been collected and exhibited by people from and abroad.

Current Work
&
Philosophy

Today, Danjie lives and works near Yosemite National Park, where the raw beauty of the wilderness serves as her daily studio. A versatile artist, she is highly regarded for her depictions of landscapes, florals, and wildlife. Her work spans multiple media—including oil, watercolor, and traditional ink—blending a solid academic foundation with the soulful "nourishment" she finds in nature.

Danjie’s paintings are a testament to a life spent at the intersection of diverse cultures and disciplines, resulting in a body of work that is as technically profound as it is emotionally resonant.
